Welcome to Over Texas Thrills! Every Monday during the 2019 season, we will be publishing a new park update highlighting everything going on at the "thrill capital of the lone star state." This week's update covers all of the off-season work that was done to prepare the park for the start of the 2019 season. Let's dive right in and take a look! New Entry ProcessNew this season is a brand new entry process. The biometric scanners are no longer being used and all of the front gate team members are instead equipped with a tablet. When you scan your season pass or membership for entry, your picture will be taken and linked with your pass. The picture will only be taken your first visit, and will be saved for the remainder of the life of your pass or membership. While the process is slow at the moment as everyone is visiting for the first time this season, it should speed up later this season once most guests have processed their new passes or memberships. Those who have been to the Disneyland Resort in California are familiar with this process as it is similar to the one used for Annual Passholders there. el diablo construction & track piecesAs construction on El Diablo progresses, the Spain section of the park is mostly closed off. Rides affected include Conquistador, La Vibora, and El Aserradero. Las Fiesta De Las Tazas and the First Aid location remain open, though pathways around them are tight as construction walls have been pushed out quite a bit. We don't know when Spain and it's attractions will reopen, but we will provide you with updates when they do. Additonally, El Diablo track pieces and trains have arrived and are currently being stored in the back section of the parking lot. The track is sporting a sleek red and gray color scheme while the trains feature a yellow and orange flame design. We will try to get better, more detailed pictures of the ride this upcoming weekend when lighting is better and we have our camera with us and not just our iPhone. Chop six updateChop Six is coming to the park later this season! The former Panda Express location is currently undergoing internal and external renovations to get the restaurant ready for it's opening this spring. Chop Six will feature fresh Asian cuisine (if you can't read the sign) and all of its menu offerings WILL be on the All Season Dining Pass. We are excited to see this location open up in the future, and we have no doubt that it'll be a big hit with guests. new blue bell ice cream parlorAlso coming later this season is the Blue Bell Ice Cream Parlor. That's right folks, Blue Bell is making it's return at Six Flags Over Texas! The new location will find it's home in the Old South section of the park and will serve up "Waffle Cones full of your favorite Blue Bell Ice Cream, Preminum Shakes, Create Your Own Floats, Blue Bell Ice Cream Novelty Bars and Coca-Cola Freestyle machines." We anticipate this location to open in just a few weeks as the infrastructure is already set in place from the Cozy Cafe at Holiday In The Park. 2019 park maps2019 park maps are now out and available for guests to grab on their way into the park. The front of the maps feature the new-for-2019 El Diablo attraction while the rest of the map remains primarily the same from prior seasons. The map also gives us more information on what's new for 2019 (including the Chop Six restaurant and Blue Blue Ice Cream Parlor) as well as dates for this year's special events which will be released down below. new hangman's challenge midway gameNew in the Gotham City section of the park is the Hangman's Challenge midway game. To win, players must hold onto the pull up bar for 90 seconds while following the rules set in place. This is a game that is almost as much fun to watch as it is to play, and it'll bring some new foot traffic to the Gotham City games location. Hangman's Challenge is $5 for 1 play of $8 for 2. The Joker receives a train storage shedTo protect The Joker's trains as they undergo maintenance, a new train storage shed has been erected around the ride's transfer track. The building matches the ascetics of the ride's queue, and we wouldn't be surprised to see some additional theming added to the sides of the shed in the near future. Updates like this are always great to see as The Joker's maintenance area has always been a bit of an eyesore the past 2 seasons. special events dates releasedFeatured on the 2019 park maps are the dates for various special events this season. The dates are as followed... 4th Of July Fest: July 3rd-July 6th Fright Fest: September 27th-November 3rd Holiday In The Park: Begins November 23rd The new Splash! Water Parade also has updated dates from what was originally announced and will run from July 13th-August 11th. These dates have been reflected onto our 2019 special events pages. mobile food ordering and in-park wifiAs we announced last month on our social media pages, mobile food ordering and free in-park WIFI are coming to the park later this season. While some had hoped to it to be ready on opening day, it is officially coming "this summer." We expect this to come sooner rather than later, with it hopefully coming in early to mid June. We'll keep you updated as we learn more! The return of the pink thingYou're reading this correctly... the legendary Six Flags Pink Thing is rumored to be making a comeback! Now that the park is again working with Blue Bell Ice Cream, rumors are circulating that the Pink Thing will be coming back later this spring or summer. This would be INCREDIBLE news for Six Flags Over Texas fans as the Pink Things are a park staple. Currently the park is offering Pink Things Flavored Dippin' Dots, but they don't live up to the hype that the original flavored push pops/sticks do. When or if the Pink Things make their return, we will be sure to try them out and let you know what we think! Ride status updatesNew this season, we will be doing weekly ride status updates. We will be discussing what's reopened, what's now temporally closed, and what's operating at reduced capacity. The Riddler Revenge- NOW OPEN Caddo Lake Barge- NOW OPEN New Texas Giant- Operating at reduced capacity (1 train) Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast- Operating at reduced capacity (1 train) Yosemite Sam & The Gold River Adventure- CLOSED (Opening TBD) That's all for this weeks update!
