We used to hate rainy days at the park, but now that we know how to prepare, they can be some our favorite times to visit. Below we discuss 6 tips on how to enjoy a rainy day at the park. 6) Dine At an indoor locationSix Flags knows how important it is to have indoor dining rooms at it's restaurants, so many of the park's locations feature some in varying extents. Restaurants that feature indoor seating include: All American Cafe, Johnny Rocket's, Oliver's Tavern, Miss Abby's Cookies & Ice Cream, Casa De Las Banderas, JB's BBQ, and Primo's Pizzeria. For more information on these restaurant locations and more, be sure to visit our park dining page. 5) SHOP AT ONE OF THE PARK'S MANY STORESSix Flags Over Texas features plenty of unique shopping experiences to keep everyone in the party satisfied. Whether you're looking for a new T-Shirt, one of the new Nanocoaster models, or even if you're just looking around, it is easy to spend an hour or more simply browsing all that the park's stores have to offer. To see which store is best for you, visit our shopping page. 4) RIDE AN INDOOR ATTRACTIONWhen you need a break from the rain, sometimes riding an indoor ride can be the perfect way to dry off. Yosemite Sam & The Gold River Adventure, Runaway Mountain, and Justice League: Battle For Metropolis are 3 rides that take place entirely indoors. Rides that take place outdoors but have either fully or partially indoor queues include El Sombrero, Rodeo, Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast, and Batman: The Ride. To view information on these rides, be sure to check out our rides page using the 'Plan Your Visit' drop down option at the top of the page. 3) ENJOY INDOOR LIVE ENTERTAINMENTThroughout the year, Six Flags Over Texas features dozens of unique and exciting entertainment options for guests to enjoy. Each March, Mrs. Ruby's Wild West Cabaret makes it's debut in the Crazy Horse Saloon. Then in June, Hey Mr. DJ: Technicolor Beat flashes it's way into the David Blackburn Southern Palace Theatre. During Fright Fest, Arania's Nightmare thrills guests as they follow along a comedic adventure starring the Black Widow Bride herself. Lastly, during Holiday In The Park, All I Want For Christmas takes guests on a whimsical Christmas adventure as you sing along with holiday favorites. 2) come preparedComing prepared can make or break an experience on a rainy day at the park. By brining an extra pair of shoes, an umbrella, or a poncho, you can save yourself blisters and dripping wet clothes as you walk around the park. While these items are sold inside of the park's many stores, they will cost much more than they would if you bought them at a supermarket or gas station prior to your visit. Coming prepared also includes bringing the right mindset, as rides may close temporally for rain or lightning. If the rain gets really bad and park attendance is low, the entire park may close early. This is rare, but it does happen. 1) take advantage of the time it's not rainingThe minutes or hours between rain showers is the perfect time to experience attractions that you normally don't want to do while it's pouring rain. This means that you should ride your favorite rides while the sun is out, and save the shows and indoor dining for the time when it's raining. As mentioned in our last tip, some rides close for the rain, so you'll want to experience these while you can so that you won't leave the park disappointed.

However, by preparing for the heat and knowing how to beat it, your day at the park can be a cool and enjoyable one. Here are our 6 favorite ways to beat the summer heat. To see which store is best for you, visit our shopping page. 4) ride an indoor attractionWhen you need a break from the heat, sometimes riding an indoor ride can be the perfect way to cool off. 3) visit the top of the oil derrick towerWith the Oil Derrick Tower finally reopening this season after being closed since the September of 2017 for a full repaint and refurbishment, there is no better time to check out this classic 1969 attraction. Standing 300 feet above Six Flags Over Texas, enjoying the breeze at the top is another great way to cool off while taking in breathtaking views of the Arlington, Dallas, and Fort Worth skylines. 2) take a spin on one of four water ridesSix Flags Over Texas features 4 exciting water rides for the family to enjoy. El Asseradero takes guests on a relaxing log flume journey that ends by flinging them down a 4-story waterfall. The Aquaman Splashdown soaks riders and resembles the action packed adventures that the hero himself may experience. Roaring Rapids takes 12 riders at a time through an unpredictable rip-roaring river journey, and the Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters soak kids as they spin around in colorful buckets in Bugs Bunny Boomtown. 1) enjoy indoor live entertainmentThroughout the year, Six Flags Over Texas features dozens of unique and exciting entertainment options for guests to enjoy. Each March, Mrs. Ruby's Wild West Cabaret makes it's debut in the Crazy Horse Saloon. Then in June, Hey Mr. DJ: Technicolor Beat flashes it's way into the David Blackburn Southern Palace Theatre. NEW THIS SEASON is the Splash! Water Parade which will soak guests twice a day on it's trip from Gotham City to Mexico and back. For the past couple of seasons, Six Flags Over Texas has been rapidly growing and improving their food selection. The park features dozens of delicious dining locations, but in this article, we will be counting down our six favorite. 6) Casa De Las BanderasComing in at our #6 spot is Casa De Las Banderas. Located in the Spain section of the park, this restaurant and sports bar features various types of nachos, alcoholic beverages, and desserts. The location features plenty of indoor seating with multiple TV's showing the latest in sports. If you want a spot to relax while you're at the park, look no further than Casa De Las Banderas. 5) JB's BbqJB's BBQ has been a park favorite for a long time. With its indoor seating and wide array of menu offerings, this restaurant is one of the best spots to escape the heat while you enjoy a delicious meal. Menu items include brisket or pulled pork sandwiches, cheeseburgers, turkey legs, salads, and waffle fries. Lines at this location can get long, so be sure to take advantage of the touch-n-go kiosks or mobile ordering (coming soon) to save yourself some time. 4) johnny rocketsJohnny Rockets is always a go-to when we're at the park. While the food quality is lacking compared to the chain's sit-down locations outside of theme parks, it's still quite good. In addition, the location is one of the few in the park to feature mostly indoor seating for you while you eat your hamburgers, chicken strips, french fries, onion rings, and milkshakes. Because of this, Johnny Rockets earns the #4 spot on our list. 3) Oliver's Tavern: cheesesteak & totsOliver's Tavern, located in the Tower section of the park near Superman, features exactly what it's name implies; cheesesteaks and tater tots! While these two options are what the restaurant is known for, the reality is that there's so much more. Oliver's Tavern also has menu items such as jalapeno bottle caps, fried pickles, and chicken strips. While the restaurant has been closed since late September due to flood damage, it's expected to reopen early on this season. The food is both tasty and filling, so next time you're at the park be sure to give the location a visit. 2) ma hunkel's famous chickenEven though it opened just months ago, Ma Hunkel's Famous Chicken has already become a guest favorite at the park. But with delicious menu options such as boneless wings, chicken strips, chicken sandwiches, and potato wedges, it's not hard to imagine why. The restraunt is located in the New Gotham City section of the park, and it's colorful theming adds to the area's already lively atmosphere. Our favorite meal at this location is by far the Texas Toast Chicken Sandwich, but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. 1) Texas taco barAs the third new-for-2018 restaurant on our list, the Texas Taco Bar rightfully earns it's #1 spot. Featuring chicken and beef street tacos, elote, chips and salsa and more, this restaurant fills yet another food gap that the park had prior to the 2018 season and makes the park's food lineup just that much better. The Texas Taco Bar also has some of the best value dining pass options, with menu items costing upwards of $15. Next time you're at the park, be sure to give it a try. Featuring 13 unique and exciting roller coasters, Six Flags Over Texas is the thrill capital of the lone star state. Below we willbe counting down our six favorite in this week’s edition of the Thrill Time Blog. 6) pandemoniumWe are kicking off this top 6 list with Pandemonium! This 2008 Gerstlauer is a fantastic family coaster with its 42" height requirement and mild thrill level. The ride is smooth and exciting, and it often has one of the longest lines in the entire park. If you plan on riding Pandemonium, be sure to take advantage of the ride's single rider line for a heavily reduced wait time. 5) Batman: The rideThere's quite a handful of Batman: The Ride clones around the world, so this one is nothing special. The ride is snappy and intense, and it features one of the best queues at the park. It's also a capacity machine, giving over 1.6 million rides in 2018. Despite this, the ride can be experienced at just about every Six Flags park in the country meaning that if you've ridden one, you've basically ridden them all. 4) shockwaveBeing the oldest coaster on our list, Shockwave is a Six Flags Over Texas classic. When the ride first opened in the spring of 1978, it was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. While it is far from holding these records today, Shockwave is still a fantastic ride. The coaster mixes positive G's (5.9 G's actually, the second most of any coaster in the world) with 3 moments of ejector airtime in the back row that sends riders flying out of their seats. Shockwave is also incredibly smooth for its age which is why it's coasting into our #4 spot. 3) mr. freeze: Reverse blastAs the park's only coaster to feature a launch, Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast is a fan favorite. After launching riders backwards at 70mph, the ride soars through an inverted top hat through an over-banked turn. After these two elements comes the undeniable climax of the ride. Riders are taken up a 212 foot vertical spike as they look straight down towards the ground. Then, after what feels like an eternity, the coaster reverses directions and sends riders through the course once again - this time forwards. Mr. Freeze is smooth, thrilling, and intense, and its uniqueness in the park puts it at our #3 spot. 2) titanAt 245 feet, Titan is the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in the state of Texas. Despite being classified as a hyper coaster, the ride features unique elements not traditionally found on rides it's size. Rather than focusing on airtime, the Titan features a "twister" layout as it sends riders through two 540 degree helixes exerting up to 4.5 G's. The ride also features many slow over-banked turns during the second half of its course. Despite its impressive stats, Titan is on the lower end of the world's hyper coasters and pales in comparison to it's next door neighbor. 1) New texas giantAs Rocky Mountain Construction's first major project, the New Texas Giant revolutionized the theme park industry and sparked the hybrid coaster hype-train that many parks and coaster enthusiasts have hopped on today. The ride takes guests to a height of 153 feet and speeds of 70mph as it roars through 4,200 feet of I-Box track. New Texas Giant is known for its impressive 79 degree first drop and countless airtime moments, thrilling riders and rightfully earning its title of the #1 roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas.
There's no denying that Six Flags Over Texas is the thrill capital of the lone star state. With over 40 rides, ranging from the slow paced Six Flags & Texas Railroad to the 400-foot Texas SkyScreamer, there truly is something for everyone. Today though, we're going to be focusing on the thrills as we countdown the top 6 tallest rides at the park. 6) new texas giant & Dive bomber AlleyTied for 6th place are my two favorite rides at the park - New Texas Giant and Dive Bomber Alley. Both rides come in at a height of 153 feet and reach speeds of over 60mph. New Texas Giant, an RMC hybrid coaster that was reintroduced in 2011, is constantly regarded as one of the best coasters in the world. Dive Bomber Alley is also quite popular with guests, though the experience isn't too unique since the company has dozens of installations all over the world. 5) mr. freeze: Reverse blastComing in at 5th place is Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast. This Premier Rides LIM launched coaster comes in at a height of 218 feet. Mr. Freeze provides a thrilling and unique ride experience as it coasts along it's 2 inversions (1 top-hat taken twice) while going both forwards, and as the name implies, backwards. Mr. Freeze is another guest favorite ride that regularly sees lines exceeding 1-hour in length. 4) titanTitan is not only the tallest coaster at the park, but actually the tallest coaster in Texas. With a height of 245 and a speed of 85mph, this Giovanola hyper coaster truly is a world-class ride. Titan's first and second helixes both exert 4.5 G's on its riders, causing many people to gray out in the hot Texas heat. If you can handle the thrill, then the Titan is the coaster for you. 3) oil derrick towerAlthough not technically a "ride," the Oil Derrick Tower still features a moving elevator that takes you to the top of the 300 foot tower. The tower provides beautiful views of the Arlington, Dallas, and Fort Worth skylines and is the perfect spot for photo-taking. 2) superman: tower of powerIt's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Superman. Standing at a height of 325 feet, Superman: Tower of Power is the 2nd tallest freestanding drop tower in North America. The ride drops brave guests at speeds of 55mph as they fly up and down the tower faster than a speeding bullet. Superman: Tower of Power is another guest favorite at the park, and rightfully so! 1) Texas skyscreamerFlying into the #1 spot on our list is the 400-foot Texas SkyScreamer. Introduced less than 6 years ago in the May of 2013, the TexasSkyScreamer is the 2nd tallest swing ride in the world. The ride provides open views of the DFW skyline and makes parkgoers down below look like tiny little ants. If you're looking for the ultimate thrill this season, look no further than the Texas SkyScreamer. Thanks for reading this week's Thrill Time Blog post. Which of these 7 rides is your favorite? Being one of the oldest modern day theme parks in the world, Six Flags Over Texas has had a rich past full of innovation and world's firsts attractions and experiences. While many of these creations have faded away into theme park history, some historical rides still exist and remain very popular. In this article we will be counting down the six oldest still-operating rides at Six Flags Over Texas. Let's get started! 6) Runaway mine trainBeing the world's second tubular steel roller coater, many assume that the Runaway Mine Train is the oldest ride at Six Flags Over Texas. However, that is not the case. The Runaway Mine Train, which originally opened in 1966, is actually the 6th oldest ride at the park. Since opening, the ride has undergone several notable changes, both to the ride itself and to its theming and surroundings. It's thrilled tens of millions of guests, and it still remains a fan favorite to this day. 5) El SombreroAlthough it's been relocated multiple times throughout it's history, the El Sombrero is actually over 53 years old. When it originally opened back in 1965, the El Sombrero took the spot of the short lived La Cucaracha roller coaster. Years later, after the Fiesta Train closed for good, the ride was moved to a location near La Vibora and The Conquistidor. Most recently, to make room for the 2006 introduction of La Fiesta De Las Tazas, the ride was moved just dozens of yards away to it's new home in the Mexico section of the park. 4) El Aserradero Flume 1Perhaps one of the most well known attractions at Six Flags Over Texas is the parks log flume, El Aserradero. When it first opened back in 1963, El Aserradero received rave reviews from guests and critics alike. It was so popular that, in 1968, the park built a second flume to help reduce the 1-2 long waits that the ride saw almost every day. So, while "Flume 2" doesn't qualify for our list, "Fume one" takes the #4 spot! 3) Silver Star CarouselMuch like El Sombrero, the Silver Star Carousel has had an interesting past of relocations and refurbishments. The carousel was first constructed in 1925 ,and opened in 1928 at Rockaway's Playland in New York. After eventually being removed in 1962, the ride was purchased by Six Flags Over Texas and installed in the Boomtown section of the park where Gunslinger is located today. At the end of the end of the 1985 season, the ride was removed as it underwent a multi-year refurbishment. Finally, 3 years after closing, the ride reopened in Star Mall section under the new Silver Star Carousel name. 2) Chaparral antique carsThe Chaparral Antique Cars are a classic among Six Flags Over Texas attractions. The ride opened way back in 1962, just one year after the park's grand opening. While not too many notable changes have occurred, the cars have received new looks over the years and the entrance has been moved twice. Once in 2011 to allow for the New Texas Giant extended queue, and again in 2016 to relocate the entrance back to it's original location. 1) Six Flags & texas railroadAs the only opening day attraction on this list, the Six Flags & Texas Railroad is the single oldest ride at Six Flags Over Texas. It opened with the park on August 5th, 1961, and has been circling the park ever since. While there have been changes to the attractions travel direction and station locations, the track itself remains mostly the same. There you have it, the 6 oldest operating rides at Six Flags Over Texas.
