While it may be April Fool's Day, this park update is no joke! This week we'll be taking a look at Chop Six and El Diablo construction, Aquaman's all-but-confirmed removal, an interesting rumor update on El Aserradero, a look at the freshly repainted and newly reopened Oil Derrick Tower, and more! Chop six receives new paint & signageThis week Chop Six finally received it's permanent signage. The two new signs each have the ability to be backlit as seen in the first two photos, and they are much larger and higher quality looking than the temporary signs that were in their place before. Another fun detail installed on the building was the addition of the Chop Six logo on the weather vane. Lastly, the building's repaint appears to be 100% complete. There still isn't an estimated opening date for this location, but we hope that it'll be ready before daily operations begin in late May. el diablo constructionWhile El Diablo has yet to go vertical, it seems that that could change any day now. The ride's concrete foundation is complete, and the ground in the construction area has been leveled! Hopefully it won't be too long until the rides 100 foot loop starts going up. aquaman splashdown removal updateEach week it likes more and more likely that the removal of Aquaman Splashown is offical. This week, the Aquaman Splashdown sign has been removed as well as other Aquaman branded thematic elements near the ride's entrance. A new sign has also been installed at the entrance of the ride that states "We apologize for the inconvenience. We're making way for some new improvements at the park. Stay tuned!" While the park has yet to confirm any details at this point in time, it now seems very unlikely that this is anything less than a removal. el aserradero flume 1 to be demolished? As we walked through the queue of El Aserradero, we noticed that the signs indicating "Flume 1" and "Flume 2" have been removed and replaced with a singular sign simply stating "Log Ride." The arrow was pointed towards Flume 2, and there was no longer any signage acknowledging Flume 1's existence. For many years now, Flume 1 has been open no more than 10 or 15 days a season, and although it was the world's first log flume, it seems as if the park has pretty much entirely given up on it. Wood on the ride is rotting, the loading station sits empty, and it just overall hasn't received the love that Flume 2 has over the years. Now that the park has officially pulled the plug on Flume 1, what's going to happen to it? Is it set for a major refurbishment, or will these logs will finally see their fate at the saw mill that the ride was named after? Nothing is official yet, but it's removal is definitely something I would keep my eyes on. We'll keep you updated when and if we learn more! A look at the newly reopened oil derrick towerThis week we finally got to go up to the top of the Oil Derrick Tower for the first time since the October of 2017. The new paint job looks fantastic, and we couldn't be happier that this park staple is looking better than ever. Many of the guests on the elevator with us seemed impressed with the tower's paint as well as heard multiple comments about how great it looked. A huge shout out and thank you to Six Flags Over Texas for giving the iconic Oil Derrick Tower the love and care that it so-badly needed. That's all for this week's park update. The 2019 season has been off to a great start, and it seems that it'll only get better as the year goes on. Be sure to come back every Monday for new park updates, and the first Wednesday of every month for new posts on the Thrill Time Blog.
