New articles released every Monday!
With highs this week reaching a record breaking 106 degrees, I thought that there is no better subject to write about today than how to stay cool at the park.
1. Drink Lots of Water
This one should go without saying, but many people don't think about it when they're running around the park to get as much done as possible. Each summer I see 10 or more people pass out simply because they did not take the time to hydrate properly. It is important! When you're experiencing heavy G-forces and walking around all day, your body is much more prone to dehydration, nausea, and yes, passing out. FREE cups of water are available at any restraunt or kiosk that serves fountain drinks, and you can take as many as you want for you and your friends. Additionly, you can bring your own water bottles into the park as long as they are sealed. Hydrating is the most important tip in this list, and we can not stress enough how much it's needed on a hot day at the park.
2. Experience The Parks Four Water Rides
Six Flags Over Texas has 4 different water rides open daily. These are:
- Aquaman Splashdown
- Roaring Rapids
- El Aserradero
- Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters
Each of the 4 rides provide a refreshing splash of water, but those looking to get absolutely soaked should ride the Aquaman Splashdown. Roaring Rapids is a close second on the "splash scale," with Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters 3rd and El Aserradero last. Lines for the water rides do get quite long, so for the shortest wait, ride them as soon as they open at noon.
3. Know Which Restaurants Have Indoor Seating
6 restaurants at the park feature indoor and air conditioned seating areas. To see which ones, visit our dining page. Taking advantage of the air conditioned seating, even if you're not enjoying a meal, is extremely important. It gives your body a few minutes to rest and recover from the heat that you'll be experiencing for the rest of the day. For an added bonus, Casa De Las Banderas, located in the Mexico section of the park, features multiple flat screen TV's with a variety of sports being shown. Just last week, I took a few minutes to rest in the AC with many others as the World Cup was being shown.
4. Take Advantage of Misting Fans Around The Park
One great thing about Six Flags Over Texas that not many other places have are an abundance of misting fans around the park. Many queues, rest areas, and pathways feature one or more of these for guests to stand in front of to cool down. And in the hot Texas sun, they are certinaly appreciated! Next time you're walking around the park, be sure to stop for a minute and stand under one of the many misting fans. You won't regret it!
5. Enjoy A Live Show
Six Flags Over Texas features 2 indoor shows that run daily through August 12th. A third show, Texas Justice, can also be found outdoors at the Court House Stage. Despite this one being outside and in the elements, those that sit in the splash zone are in for a bit of a treat. For showtimes, pictures, and more, visit our entertainment page. All 3 shows feature fun themes and storylines and provide a few fun minutes away from the heat of the day!
6. Know Your Limits
No matter how many precautions one may take, it is important to know your limit. No ride is worth passing out or becoming ill on, and that should be kept in mind during your visit. If your group wants to ride Titan even though you're not feeling well, just sit it out. Missing out on a few rides won't be the end of the world, and I can guarantee that you won't regret giving your body the rest it needs. The heat is draining, and pushing yourself to do things you're not comfortable with won't lead to anything positive out of your visit.
That's it! 6 ways to stay cool during your visit to Six Flags Over Texas. Have any tips that we didn't mention? Be sure to comment them down below! If you're going to the park this week, stay cool and stay safe. It'll be a hot one! Also be sure to stay tuned for a massive park update this Wednesday and another Thrill Time Blog article on Friday. Until next time!
