Trip reports, rumors, construction and more!
With July already coming to an end, the summer season is wrapping up quicker than we think. Preperation has now begun on Fright Fest and daily operations end in just under a month. That doesn't mean that there isn't still a lot going on at the park, however! In this week's update we will cover Harley Quinn Spinsanity's downtime, Fright Fest preperation, rumors, and advertsing, construction on the new restaurant in Gotham City, and lastly, Superman VR. Let's take a look!
Harley Quinn Spinsanity Downtime And Hours:
Since last week's update, a temporary air conditioning unit has been installed outside of the ride's electrical/control room. This additonal unit will hopefully allow the ride to continue operating as much as possible despite the 105+ degree heat that the park has been experiencing in the past few days. In addition, the ride now opens with the park and closes with it as well. Before, the ride opened and closed one hour after/prior to park opening/closing. Lastly, additional shade has been added above the ride's switchbacks to keep guests out of the sun while they wait to ride. Lines have been quite long still, so we suggest that you head to the ride first thing when the park opens; at least for the near future.
"Gotham Chicken Restaurant" Construction:
By far the quickest moving construction project at the park right now is the new Gotham City Chicken Restaurant. Work is being done daily to have the location completed and open as quickly as possible. This week, a great amount of exterior work has taken place and crews are now working on the interior of the restaurant as well. Over a month ago we reported that the location will feature multiple Touch 'N' Go Kiosks for guests paying with a credit or debit card or using their dining pass. This is now pratically confirmed as the "indent" in the building has now been better outlined and a pick up window was placed right next to it. The location will serve boneless chicken wings, chicken sandwhiches, classic chicken tenders, and corn dogs when it opens later this season.
Fright Fest Preparation, Rumors, And Advertising:
Fright Fest is now less than 2 months away! This means that weekly updates on haunted houses, scare zones, and general park decor are very likely to be included from now until September 22nd.
Preparation: Our first bit of visible preperation is taking place at the site of the Cirkus Bezerkus and Cadaver Hall Morgue haunted houses. As you can see, the tent has now been completely set up and flooring, props and walls are in the process of being put inside of the houses.
Rumor: Last fall, we at Over Texas Thrills learned that a new haunted house will be coming to Fright Fest 2018! While details on the theme are still unknown, rumors on the location have been coming to us for quite a while now. From what we've been told, you can expect the new haunted house to be located in the former strip mall next to The Joker, Batman: The Ride, and Harley Quinn Spinsanity. Because the haunt will take place in a building rather than in a tent, larger and more impressive sets can be created as the props will be able to be kept up year round.
Advertising: A fun new Fright Fest advertisement has gone up in front of the entrance to Pandemonium. Using a couple of in park props, the Fright Fest hearse, and a picture of our Goblin friend Larson, the park is now building up excitement and anticipation for what is sure to be the biggest Fright Fest ever.
Superman: Tower of Power VR:
As we've been reporting since mid-June, a virtual reality experience will be coming to the red tower on Superman: Tower of Power in the coming weeks. While none of this information is exactly new, we do have a few pictures of the progress being made for y'all. From the looks of things, it's getting close to being ready!! As soon as we have an opening date or any other information, we will let everyone know.
That's all for this Six Flags Over Texas park update. We can not emphasize enough just how excited we are for the 2018 season. So much has already taken place and from what we've seen, it's only the beginning! Stay tuned on overtexasthrills.com and our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook @overtexasthrills) for updates as soon as articles like this are released. Thank you for reading and we'll see you again next time!
