Trip reports, rumors, construction and more!
Last week we promised that a big new park update would be coming, and here it is! We went to the park twice (Saturday the 14th and Tuesday the 17th) between our last two updates and were able to compile quite a few photos of new construction as well as Harley Quinn Spinsanity in action.
Harley Quinn Spinsanity:
Harley Quinn Spinsanity has now officially opened to the public! I was one of the lucky riders on the first ever public cycle (this is excluding the media, passholder, membership, and t-shirt preview days) and enjoyed it just as much as I did during last week's media event. Just a couple things to keep in mind however... the ride opens one hour after park opening and closes one hour prior to closing for the next few days at least. Additionally, the ride is prone to shutdowns due to heat. This means that if you plan on riding it, you should try to get on as close to 11:30am as possible. The ride closed at around 4:00pm as temperatures exceeded 102 degrees and did not reopen for the rest of the day. We will posting a full gallery of Harley Quinn Spinsanity when we release our rides page to the site. Expect that to happen in the next couple of weeks! Until then, we will post a few of our favorites as well as some of the signs that advise riders of the rides hours and possible closures.
"Gotham Chicken Restaurant" Construction:
So much progress has been made since last weeks update. Paint is being added on the outside of the building and concrete has been poured behind the back half of the restaurant. Addionally, shade covers have been added in front of and behind the building to keep guests out of the hot Texas sun. This has been one of my favorite projects to follow because of just how much is changing each time that we see it.
Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast Theming Returns:
YES! YES! YES! You heard it right. Many theming elements have now returned to the Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast queue and station. The biggest one of course being Mr. Freeze himself! The infamous animatronic has a head once again and is no longer covered in tarps to be hidden from guest view. In addition, almost all of the lights on the queue theming have been replaced which adds really adds to the atmosphere while you wait in line. Most of the walls and handrails have been repained as well! Let me just say... I LOVE THIS! To whoever decided to restore these awesome elements, thank you! It might not be much to some, but seeing the park put so much TLC into one of thier most popular rides is really great to see.
Six Flags Grab 'N' Go Construction:
It's been awhile since we last reported on the Six Flags Grab 'N' Go construction. No visible progress has been made on the addition since mid-March, and I wasn't sure how long it would be delayed. Well now we have our answer! Fabric covers have been added along all external windows to block the view of what's going on inside to guests. We assume that this is because flooring and cabinets are being replaced, but that is purely speculation. We will see what external changes occur over the next few weeks and update you when appropriate.
Superman: Tower of Power VR:
We first reported that VR would be coming to Superman: Tower of Power back in the beginning of June. Since then, still no announcement has been made regarding its opening. However, we have provided 2 or 3 updates since then as sensors have been added and program testing has occured. Now we appear to be closer to opening as ever as air conditioning units, previously at Shockwave, have been moved over and added to the VR storage "sheds." Below, we also have a closer look at the VR computer system that will detect when the ride beings. Once the cycle has started, the computer will send the information to the headsets and begin playing the VR program. We expect the VR to be themed to and named "DC Super Heroes Drop of Doom VR" as it is currently being offered at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Our guess is that the VR will be offered starting at the end of July or early August, but nothing is official until confirmed by the park. We will be sure to update you as soon as receive more information!
Calico Gifts & Souvenirs Gets An Official Name:
Lastly for this update, what we previously referred to as the "Star Mall Kiosk" has now been given an offical name. The "Calico Gifts & Souvenirs" stand opened up back in the late April of this year and sells products such as towels, capes, plush, bottled Coca-Coca drinks, and more.
That's all for this Six Flags Over Texas park update. We can not emphasize enough just how excited we are for the 2018 season. So much has already taken place and from what we've seen, it's only the beginning! Stay tuned on overtexasthrills.com and our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook @overtexasthrills) for updates as soon as articles like this are released. Thank you for reading and we'll see you again next time!
