Trip reports, rumors, construction and more!
In case you missed our announcement last week, we will be publishing new park updates every single Wednesday for the remainder of the summer! We will also be adding new posts to the Over Texas Thrills Blog every Monday and Friday! In additon, a page featuring information on all of the parks retail locations is in the progress and will be posted sometime during the first week of July. Lastly, our guide to the Coca Cola 4th of July Fest can be found here. We go into detail on the ERT, fireworks, All American Food Festival, the foam and dance after party, VIP viewing, and much more! We are so happy to be growing Over Texas Thrills once again and truly making it your ultimate unofficial guide to Six Flags Over Texas.
Now that our big announcements are out of the way, lets jump into this week's park update! We will be covering Harley Quinn Spinsanity, the Gotham Chicken restraunt, 4th of July Fest preparation, Superman VR, and information regarding the Oil Derrick Tower repaint and reopening.
Harley Quinn Spinsanity:
Last Wednesday, Six Flags Over Texas announced that Harley Quinn Spinsanity will open to the public on July 14th! With just about 17 days to go until the grand opening, landscaping and queue work is being done while crews rush to get the area looking sharp for its public debut. Below you can see that grass has been placed between the newly poured pathways and the queue for The Joker. Additionally, the park has also installed many decals along the queue, fencing, and operators panel that add to the fun Harley Quinn theme. Finally, there's a bit of new signage for guests to read while they're in line as well as the awesome looking main entrance!
"Gotham Chicken Restaurant" Construction:
Construction on the new "Gotham Chicken Restaurant" is well underway. The structure is in the process of being insulated and both electrical and plumbing lines are being worked on inside. Concrete has been poured around much of the restraunt and the ordering windows are now much more clear to see. We predict that the area with no windows to the right side of the building will be home to 4 or 5 Touch 'N' Go self ordering kiosks, but only time will tell.
This week, the VR headset storage containers were moved against the red tower of Superman. This confirms our earlier rumor that VR will only be offered on this one tower! We still don't have an offical opening date, but I would now expect it to be more towards mid to late July. As soon as we hear more we'll let you know!
4th of July Fest Preparation:
This year's 4th of July Fest runs from June 30th to July 4th and will be the biggest summer celebration that the park has ever had! All of the white lights at park's the security checkpoint have been replaced with red, white, and blue bulbs and I have to say, they look fantastic! These patrotic colored lights have also been added on trees, buildings, fences, and awnings are around Gotham City! The covers below will be home to food venues for the All American Food Festival and/or 4th Food Fest Village and them too have been covered in lights. Oil Derrick Tower Repaint & Reopening Information:
In our guide to the 4th of July Fest, we mentioned that the VIP Fireworks Package will take place at the top of the Oil Derrick Tower. This means that that after being closed since November, guests will soon be able to go up the tower once again! However, the offical reopening still won't be for a little bit longer as there is a bit of work left to do on the repaint. Expect the tower to offically reopen in mid July! For now, though, enjoy a look at the fantastic repaint!
That's all for this Six Flags Over Texas park update. We can not emphasize enough just how excited we are for the 2018 season. So much has already taken place and from what we've seen, it's only the beginning! Stay tuned on overtexasthrills.com and our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook @overtexasthrills) for updates as soon as articles like this are released. Thank you for reading and we'll see you again next time!
