Trip reports, rumors, construction and more!
It was an unusually cold day when we visited Six Flags Over Texas this past weekend. With wind chills in the mid 20's for most of the day, crowds were light and some of the rides were closed due to weather. Despite this, lots has changed at the park in the past week. We'll take a look at everything new down below!
Oliver's Tavern (Cheesesteak & Tots):
As predicted in last weeks update, Oliver's Tavern is now open to the public! Saturday, April 7th served as the soft opening date for select employees and Sunday, April 8th was when the restaurant officially opened to guests. The food is a great new option to the parks food lineup and I highly recommend that you try it out. On top of the Cheesesteaks and Tater Tots, the restaurant also has beer on tap. Below are pictures of both the interior and exterior of the building, 3 different menu items, and in case you haven't seen it in our last two updates, a look at the restaurants menu.
Removal Of Harley Quinn/Construction For Gotham Chicken:
Last week we shared pictures of concrete being torn up for the new Gotham Chicken restaurant. Since then, the majority of the old Harley Quinn Spinsanity pad has been demolished. The queue line is now gone as well! We still don't have any information on when the restaurant will open, but as soon as learn more, we'll let you know.
Construction on new "Star Mall Kiosk":
The Star Mall Kiosk is known for selling fans, towels, light up toys, novelties and more. Until now, the cart has been completely outdoors and exposed to the elements. To better suit the store for its outdoor location, the park has decided to install a more permanent structure to serve as the Star Mall Kiosk's new home.
Six Flags Grab 'N' Go:
Six Flags Grab 'N' Go is one of the 5 new dining locations already announced for this year at Six Flags Over Texas. Two of the other restaurants (Texas Taco Bar and Oliver's Tavern) have already opened which gives us hope that Six Flags Grab 'N' Go will be ready within the next two or three weeks! Not much has changed since spring break, but we expect this to change soon! We'll keep you updated over the next few weeks while construction progresses.
New Show In The David Blackburn Southern Palace Theater:
Another round of entertainment auditions were held this past weekend which allowed us to receive some more information on the new show being offered in the Southern Palace Theater. The new show, titled 'Hey Mr. DJ: Technicolor Beat' is said to be "Vegas style" and something new and exciting to the park. The show will open in early June and it has yet to be officially confirmed by the park! We'll keep you informed when more details are released.
Ride Crew of The Week:
A new feature we will be including into all of our Spring 2018 updates will be "ride crew of the week." This is a crew that went above and beyond to increase guest experience. This can be through operations, interaction, service, or of course all 3. The third ever ride crew of the week award goes to...
Contragulations, Mr. Freeze crew. You did a fantastic job dispatching trains and keeping the lines moving. Keep it up throughout the season! We love to see ride crews really care about friendly, clean, fast, safe service.
That's all for this Six Flags Over Texas park update. We can not emphasize enough just how excited we are for the 2018 season. So much has already taken place and from what we've seen, it's only the beginning! Stay tuned on overtexasthrills.com and our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook @overtexasthrills) for updates as soon as articles like this are released. Thank you for reading and we'll see you again next time!
