Trip reports, rumors, construction and more!
It is Spring Break time in Texas which means that the Texas theme parks are jam packed with families enjoying their week off. After a great trip to Nevada and Arizona, we welcomed ourselves back home with a much overdue visit to Six Flags Over Texas! (It had been 11 days!!) A lot has been underway getting the park in tip top shape for the season to come. We'll take a look at all of that down below.
Spring Break Crowds:
As we mentioned before, Spring Break days are typically some of the busiest of the year at Six Flags Over Texas, following only closely behind Saturday's during Fright Fest. To give you a perspective on just how busy it really was, here are a few pictures of some of the lines found throughout the day. Even though most ride queues were full (and overflowing in some cases), it was evident that the park employees wanted to get everyone onto their attractions as quickly and safely as possible. Great job, Six Flags Over Texas!
Texas Tacos, formally the Go Fresh Cafe, is now open in the Texas section of the park. The restaurant features 2 Coke Freestyle machines and many items available on the dining pass. In fact, every menu item can be used as either a meal or a snack! The food is extremely tasty and we're happy to say that it exceeded our expectations in every way.
Also new this season, Coaster Candy replaced the now nonexistent Jelly Belly store. As the name indicates, the store has an assortment of bulk and packaged candy as well as plush, novelties and other various sweets. Items such as bags of candy, Taki's and cotton candy are available as a snack for those with a Season Dining Pass. The store has a modern, clean look that is much better than that of its predecessor. We are really happy with the way that this location turned out!
Looney Tunes Mall Refurbishment:
The candy section of the Looney Tunes Mall has recently reopened after undergoing a much needed refurbishment. Like Coaster Candy, the store now has a modern look that really opens up the space and displays the products nicely. Not only did the store get refurbished, but lots of new merchandise was available as well! We would expect the other two sections of the Looney Tunes Mall to get refurbished after the spring break rush is over, so stay tuned!
Philly Cheesesteak Restaurant:
The new Philly Cheesesteak restaurant is getting ready to open in the Tower section of the park. While the final touches are still being made inside, we would expect the store to open very soon; hopefully before the end of the month. The digital menu boards were turned on during our visit which allowed us to get a nice view of what will be served once the restaurant officially opens.
Six Flags Grab 'N' Go:
Six Flags Grab 'N' go will be a restaurant replacing the former Coldstone location in France later on this season. The restaurant will feature a variety of sandwiches and salads as well as multiple Coke Freestyle machines. The first of these machines arrived this past week and is now wrapped up inside of the location. Other than that, not much has really changed for the time being. We'd expect it to be 2 or 3 weeks until the restaurant is ready, but it could of course be sooner or later depending on the extent of the transformation.
Memberships: (Gold Plus, Platinum, Diamond & Diamond Elite)
- If you've tried processing your Platinum, Diamond, or Diamond Elite membership within the past two weeks, you were given a "Gold Plus" card for the time being. While the benefits of your membership are loaded onto that card, many were disappointed that they did not get the card design specific to their membership tier. Our latest update from park staff indicates that the cards for the other levels will arrive by the first week of April. If you've already processed your membership and were hoping for your specific tier's card, don't worry. Once the new cards arrive, simply go to the Membership HQ (located just to the left of Guest Relations by the front gate) to transfer your information to you new card.
- If you have the Platinum, Diamond, or Diamond Elite membership, you are eligible for free front of the line pass(es). Platinum gets one pass per season, Diamond gets one pass per day and Diamond Elite members get 2 passes per day. To redeem these, go to the Flash Pass center located directly to the left as you enter the front gate, and get in the leftmost line. Please note that you must pick your ride(s) at the Flash Pass office, and that each front of the line pass is only good for one person on the day of your visit.
Harley Quinn Spinsanity Construction:
With the late spring opening of Harley Quinn Spinsanity quickly approaching, work is underway on setting the ride's foundations. Nearly all of the main ride parts are now on site, spread out throughout various locations around park property. The main frame is on site next to the foundations, the seats are under the lift motor on Titan, and the arms that will lift the ride into its starting position and support it while it's in in motion are in the parking lot. Footers are also being poured for the ride, but because the only views of them are from The Joker and Texas SkyScreamer, we are unable to take photos as loose articles are not permitted. Safety first!
Other Park Improvements:
While some changes aren't necessarily the biggest or most noticeable, Six Flags keeps reminding us again and again this season that they want to focus on every little aspect of the guest experience. One big step towards this is giving guests the opportunity to refill their souvenir bottles at as many locations as possible. The Coke Freestyle location in the Texas section that was notorious for always being closed the past couple of seasons is now planned to be open every park operating day for the foreseeable future. Also, the first of what will hopefully be many new refill-only kiosks is now open in the Gotham City section. (It opened right after we took the picture, of course.) Many other cosmetic changes are taking place that we will be covering heavily in our next update!
Ride Crew Of The Week:
A new feature we will be including into all of our Spring 2018 updates will be "ride crew of the week." This is a crew that went above and beyond to increase guest experience. This can be through operations, interaction, service, or of course all 3. The first ever ride crew of the week award goes to...
Congratulations, Titan ride crew. You did a fantastic job of running 3 trains for the first time this season and getting the line moving as quickly as possible. Seeing a crew beat the 60 second dispatch clock once is amazing... and y'all did it consistently! Keep up the good work; we as guests appreciate it!
That's all for this Six Flags Over Texas park update. We can not emphasize enough just how excited we are for the 2018 season. So much has already taken place and from what we've seen, it's only the beginning! Stay tuned on overtexasthrills.com and our social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook @overtexasthrills) for updates as soon as articles like this are released. Thank you for reading and we'll see you again next time!
