PARK UPDATES

Park Update + Trip Report (November 19, 2018)

11/19/2018

With Holiday In The Park 2018 now underway, this week's park update will be heavily focused on everything happening at this year's event. Below we'll discuss ride statuses, new food options, a special opportunity to donate to kids in need, and the possible (and likely) removal of the Gold Plus membership.

mr. freeze open for holiday in the park

As we first reported 2 weeks ago, Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast is open for this year's Holiday In The Park. However, the ride is only running one side while the other side is getting its annual maintenance and inspection done. This has led to extremely long wait times, so if you want to ride Mr. Freeze, be sure to do it early.

harley quinn spinsanity has reopened

Last week we reported that Harley Quinn Spinsanity was rumored to be reopening for the start of Holiday In The Park. As expected, this is the case! We took a couple of rides on it now that it's finally back open, and it was running as great as ever. We seriously love this ride, and we're so happy to be able to ride it again!

buy one, give one holiday special

Six Flags Over Texas is giving back this holiday season with their buy one, give one plush special. Plush are being sold for $12.99 each, and for each one purchased, the park will donate another one to Mission Arlington. To purchase your buy one, give one plush, head on over to the Looney Tunes Mall or Indian Village Trading Post.

Park Update + Trip Report (November 5, 2018)

11/5/2018

This week's park update is a big one. Because it's been just over a month since we last gave you an update on the park (despite us having gone over 8 times since), we have collected lots of rumors, news, and photos that we're excited to share. Grab your popcorn, because this is going to be a very, very, interesting update!

is the gold river adventure closed forever?

As you may have heard (or experienced if you live in the area), North Texas has received extreme amounts of rainfall over the past couple of months. Unfortunately, on the night of September 21st and the morning of September 22nd, Six Flags Over Texas was hit by flash floods that caused damage to nearly 1/4 of the park. Water levels in the Tower and Boomtown sections reached nearly 8 feet, causing damage to restaurants and buildings and forcing rides to be closed for repairs and/or inspections. One of the locations that was hit the hardest is Yosemite Sam And The Gold River Adventure. The ride has been closed ever since the flood occurred, and the rumors that we've been hearing haven't been good. From what we've been told, there is a chance that the ride may never reopen. The damage inside is said to be extensive as the entire building flooded and the boats floated into walls, set pieces, and animatronics. As you could imagine, repairs costs are likely to be through the roof as the building is already extremely old and likely didn't take the flooding very well at all. Over Texas Thrills is your first and only source to report on this, as the news hasn't picked up much traction despite guests noticing the ride's extended closure. We will keep you updated as we learn more. For now though, all we can do is wait and see what the park has in store. Will the ride ever reopen, or will it simply float into history?

mr. freeze rumored to stay open year-round

While most rides remain open for Holiday In The Park, Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast has always been one of the few that's been closed. This year, however, that changes! Over Texas Thrills sources have reported to us that the ride will indeed be open for Holiday In The Park 2018. This is exciting news for many, as the ride is a fan favorite at the park!

panda express is gone for good... what's next?

As mentioned previously, the Tower and Boomtown sections of the park received significant flood damage back in September. One of the many  buildings that got flooded was the Panda Express restaurant across from the Oil Derrick Tower. Since then, the building has been stripped of all Panda Express signage and branding and the windows have been covered in tarp. The Six Flags and Panda Express contract was rumored to expire at the end of the season anyways, but due to the flood, Panda Express decided to leave early. This means that the park now has a vacant restaurant space waiting for something new. And what better restaurant is there to take its place than Chop Six? Six Flags parks have been replacing their Panda Express locations with Chop Six's for years now, so it wouldn't come as a surprise if Six Flags Over Texas did the same. Adding a Chop Six would fill the parks Asian food gap that Panda Express once held together, and it would also add more diverse offerings to the All Season Dining Pass. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled on opening day, as a new restaurant might just be on the horizon.

the riddler revenge/harley quinn downtime

Everyone that frequents Six Flags Over Texas knows that The Riddler Revenge is a fan favorite among guests. It's not uncommon to see the ride with a 45+ minute wait, even when lines for other attractions harley exceed 10 or 15 minutes. Everyone that frequents Six Flags Over Texas ALSO knows that The Riddler Revenge is closed... a lot. This Zamperla Giant Discovery suffers from extreme downtime issues every season, often being closed for weeks at a time while it waits on parts. The contender for all of the downtime is the massive motor that powers the ride and swings it back and forth. It burns out quite often, and replacements are expensive and take a long time to deliver form the company's headquarters in Italy. Well unfortunately the ride is closed yet again, just a couple of months after the ride reopened for the same issue. Rumors are that it could be closed for 3 or 4 more weeks, and possibly for the rest of the season. The same situation is going on over at Harley Quinn Spinsanity as well. The ride has been closed for nearly a month now, and apparently it's not going to reopen anytime soon either. Just a heads up for everyone visiting the park... don't expect to ride these ones anytime soon.

That's all for this Six Flags Over Texas park update. We hope that you enjoyed all of our Over Texas Thrills exclusive news and rumors. While it's always sad to see possible ride removals and downtime, it's great to see that the park is making up for things by adding Mr. Freeze to their Holiday In The Park lineup.
