Six Flags Over Texas!
Trip reports, rumors, construction updates and more.
With the 2018 announcement coming up just 3 weeks from today, it's that time of year for coaster enthusiasts to start speculating on what's in store. While not much information has been given, we believe to have a pretty good idea on what we could see come to the park next season. Below we will list some possible attractions, what they could be themed to and where they could be located.
Option 1: ABC Rides tourbillon
Why it Fits: During a presentation this past June, former Six Flags CEO John Duffey stated that the company plans to open 5 record breaking or North American firsts for the 2018 season. With Six Flags Over Texas being a testing ground for new rides, it wouldn't be a surprise for the park to receive another unique flat ride to add to their collection. An ABC Rides Tourbillon seems like the perfect fit for them! Currently the park has only one flat ride that inverts rides upside down, that being Catwoman Whip. With the addition of an ABC Rides Tourbillon their flat ride collection would be nearly complete. Not only that, but the ride would be the first of its kind in North America!
Location: Just like the Mega Disk'o, I could see this ride coming to the Gotham City section of the park. With its bright lights and thrilling experience, the ride would fit in perfectly with the section.
Theme: Unlike the other rides, no definite theme sticks out to me when I think of this attraction. After some thinking, I could see a Two Face theme coming since riders sit back to back on two different sides. Another possible theme could be the Suicide Squad, with each ring representing a different character. No ride has ever been themed to the Suicide Squad despite Six Flags having the rights to use it. Either way, the theme will definitely be DC related!
Likelihood: I think that this attraction definitely has the potential of becoming reality. The ride would be a big hit with guests and attract riders from all over the Gotham City section of the park. I would give it an 85%-90% chance of becoming reality.
Option 2: Zamperla Mega Disk'o
Why it Fits: It's no secret that guests at the park love THE RIDDLER Revenge. For some, however, it's just too thrilling. A Zamperla Disk'o would be the perfect family ride that Gotham City needs. Adding a 3rd ride for families would give younger children (and older chickens) a third option on what to ride while the thrill seekers enjoy larger attractions.
A Zamperla Mega Disk'o could easily sit on the plot of land between The Joker, Catwoman Whip and Batman: The Ride. The attraction is compact and the bright LED's would make it fit in perfectly with the rest of Gotham City.
Since it's opening in 2016, the new section of Gotham City is often referred to as 'villain village' by park regulars. With all of the focus on DC villains, I think it's time to give the spotlight to a well known hero. Which hero you may ask... no other than Wonder Woman herself! That's right, I believe that the attraction would be named "Wonder Woman: Lasso of Truth." The circular motion of the ride perfectly resembles that of a lasso, giving the ride a suiting and memorable name.
I believe that this attraction has a decent chance of becoming reality. From the family friendly ride to the Wonder Woman theme, this would be a great addition to the Gotham City section of the park! I'd give this rumor about a 75% chance of coming true.
Option 3: Funtime sling shot
Why it Fits:
Those of you that have been to the park in recent years know that up-charge attractions are a huge hit. However, the Six Flags Speedway Go Carts and Dive Bomber Alley are the only two that the park features at this time. This can of course change with the addition of a Funtime Slingshot. The ride is thrilling, eye catching, and can be a huge money maker for the park!
Just like with the Zamperla Mega Disk'o, I believe that the Gotham City section of the park would be a perfect home to this attraction. With the 4 newest rides all in this one location, you can imagine that the section gets some pretty heavy foot traffic. Luckily for them, foot traffic is exactly what the ide needs in order to make the park money.
The theme of this attraction could go one of two ways. One option would be naming it after The Flash. By doing this, the ticket booth could be decorated with comic strips and the ride could have a red and yellow color scheme. The other (and more likely) option would be keeping the simple "Slingshot" name featured on many of these attractions.
A Funtime Slingshot would definitely be a welcome addition to the park. While it's not the most likely option, I still believe that we could see one coming in the near future. I'd give this rumor about a 60% chance of coming true.
Option 4: Major New RESTAURANT
Why it Fits:
Since its release a few years ago, the All Season Dining Pass has been a HUGE hit among guests! With the amount of guests eating in the park seeing a massive surge, more dining locations are sure to be on their way.
While more than one location could be added next season, the most likely would be in the Gotham City section of the park. The area features the most heavy foot traffic while still only having one place to eat. The park already has a building with a kitchen in the area making it a perfect candidate for a new dining location!
Unfortunately only one restaurant at the park has a true theme. If Gotham City was to add one, I could not see too heavy of a story behind it. Because of this, I'd assume that the location will feature theme park standards (pizza, hot dogs, etc.) as well as a few specialty food and drink options.
The chances of the park getting a new restaurant are very, very high. I would honestly be surprised if one (or more) wasn't added! I would give this a 85%-95% chance of happening.
Option 5: VR Attraction
Why it Fits:
For the past 2 seasons, Six Flags and Samsung have teamed up to bring new and exciting VR experiences to Shockwave. So far there has been The New Revolution, Rage of the Gargoyles and Galactic Attack. More expected to be rolled out for Fright Fest and Holiday in The Park later this season. Clearly Six Flags loves the partnership and plans to continue bringing new VR attractions.
Because VR is a layover of a current ride, there are a few options for what the park could choose to do. I think that the park will continue to run VR on Shockwave as they've already spent money on an extended queue, headset storage and sensors to calibrate the VR headsets. Transferring it to another ride would simply be unnecessary.
Since each season has its own unique theme, I have 3 predictions for the different times of the year. I think that they'll continue with their space theme for the spring and Gargoyle theme for Fright Fest. Holiday in the Park will likely be themed to riding on Santa's sleigh, similar to 'Santa's Wild Sleigh Ride' at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
conclusion: What I think is coming
